last word: Lauren Santo Domingo
GLAMOROUS GIRLS GETAWAY
One of Manhattan’s most well known trendsetters has her must-haves for travel — whether it’s for work or play.
In 2010, New York Magazine exclaimed that the “most important three names in Manhattan society” — or anywhere for that matter — were Lauren Santo Domingo. Not much has changed, except that maybe Santo Domingo’s reputation has grown even more. If her name sounds familiar, it could be for a number of reasons. She’s the co-founder of Moda Operandi.com, a members-only “pre-tail” website, which offers customers pre-order looks straight from the runway from top designers’ trunk shows, including clothing, jewelry, watches, and accessories. She’s also a contributing editor for Vogue, was inducted into Vanity Fair’s “International Best Dressed List” in 2012, and has served as a muse for designers such as Nina Ricci and Eddie Borgo.
Santo Domingo says she’s always loved to travel. “Discovering new destinations and returning to my favorite places, learning local culture. . . there’s a part of me that just loves walking through a city with no agenda. Since marrying her husband, Colombian-born Andrés Santo Domingo in 2008, her favorite vacation spot has become Cartagena, Colombia — her wedding was held there. “It is still an undiscovered gem with great charm and surprises.” She adds, “Though my dream trip is Machu Picchu. In June, she was in Rio de Janeiro for the World Cup finals and before that “Paris and London for work.” She rounded out her summer by escaping NYC for the beaches of Southampton. So what are the must-haves on her trips, and what will she absolutely have to take when she reaches Machu Picchu?
